IHSAA releases 2020 football season schedules
The Bears take on two Class 2A opponents and five road games.
Today the Iowa High School Athletic Association released the schedules for the 2020 football season for all teams across the state.
The Bears' 2020 season kicks off Friday, August 28th at the Little Rose Bowl as the Bears will take on the Tipton Tigers. For the nine-game season, the Class 1A Bears will once again be faced with five road games. In addition, two Class 2A opponents are on the squad's four-game non-district portion of the schedule.
Check out the full schedule below as well as on the Schedule page.
- 8/28 vs. Tipton (2A) [Non-district]
- 9/4 at Sigourney-Keota [Non-district]
- 9/11 at West Liberty (2A) [Non-district]
- 9/18 vs Regina, Iowa City (A) [Non-district]
- 9/25 vs Cascade, Western Dubuque
- 10/2 at Wilton
- 10/9 vs Northeast, Goose Lake
- 10/16 at Durant
- 10/23 at Beckman Catholic, Dyersville
The Bears will face two opponents that they haven't played for a handful of seasons: Sigourney-Keota and Wilton.
Sigourney-Keota and West Branch last battled in the playoffs of the 2014 season, with the Bears winning 49-22.
As for Wilton, the Beavers and Bears last played each other during the 2015 regular season with West Branch coming out on top 55-14 on a record-setting night for then Bears quarterback, Cooper Koenig.
Per changes the IHSAA announced back in February, the state has only released schedules for the 2020 season, and not the 2021 season, as they have moved away from the typical two-year scheduling cycle, at least for the 2020 season.
