Bears travel to Raider Country for the first time in 20 years

Location: Williamsburg High School
Date: September 13, 2019
Time: 7:30pm CDT
Game Notes
WILLIAMSBURG has one of the better football programs in Eastern Iowa. You know you had better bring a lunch pail and a hard hat when the Raiders are on the other side of the ball. They have played two very tough foes thus far; defeating West Marshall (a 2018 playoff qualifier) 14-7 and losing to 3A top ranked Western Dubuque by a score of 48-20. Brody Wardenburg has stepped right up and taken the reins at QB after Jordan Martin (over 2000 passing yards in 2018) graduated. The junior is averaging 160.5 yards passing per game and 4 TD. His top target is Kaden Wetjen, who hauled in 116 receiving yards versus the Bears last year. Austin Burns leads the run game with 132 yards and one TD through two weeks.
KEEP AN EYE ON: Wetjen - He is as big play as they come. The senior WR averages - AVERAGES - 36 yards every time he catches a pass.
WEST BRANCH faced a challenge in Week Two, but rose to it and succeeded. The defense gave up a 63 yard TD run early, but only allowed 13 yards for the entire game after that play. West Branch's offense is continuing to grow with Gavin Hierseman at the helm. The junior QB has completed 72 percent of his passes through two weeks, including two TD passes to big play WR Trey Eagle vs. Wapello. Hierseman has also rushed for two scores. Dalyn Pedersen, Dakota Kaalberg, and Jeff Bowie led the strong defensive performance versus Wapello. Pedersen record 3.5 tackles for loss.
QUOTABLE: "Offensively, with six new starters we've grown each week, and that's what I expect. I'm very happy with the growth and we need to continue (growing). I'm confident that we will." - Assistant Head Coach John Hierseman
