Game Preview: West Branch vs Maquoketa Valley

Final pre-district test for Bears; on the road... again

September 9, 2021 — 7:00am CDT

Location: Delhi

Date: September 10, 2021

Time: 7:00pm CDT

Game Notes

MAQUOKETA VALLEY is a team with many young parts running the vehicle. Led by a freshman at QB, the Wildcats are running its way to success AJ Ambundo is averaging 179 yards per game (47 carries, 358 yards). He can give opposing defenses fits while putting a young signal caller at ease and helping with confidence. Ambundo has accounted for nearly 75 percent of his team's offensive output so far. A year older, a year stronger, a year wiser, DT Aiden Salow is a menace to block for any defense. He leads the team in tackles, averaging 10.5 per contest.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Salow. You have to know where this kid is when the Wildcats are on defense. He just has a nose for the football.

WEST BRANCH really needs to find its footing on the offensive side of the football if they want to find success as the season progresses. Defense is where the Bears have really hung their hats thus far this season. Allowing just under 160 yards and 11.5 per game; when the offense finds a footing, it could be a fun combination. Cole Bailey leads the team with 11 tackles on the season, with many others just behind. Look for QB Carver Boelk to really be a strong player on the stage in Delhi on Friday.

QUOTABLE: “This is still a long season. We have many things we can work on, but have many more successes we can achieve." - Coach Butch Pedersen
