Game Preview: West Branch vs Regina

Game Notes
REGINA is arguably a top 5 program in the entire state of Iowa. Success is in its blood. After missing the 2018 playoffs, the Regals are back - having played a murderer's row schedule (3 District Champs, 5 Playoff Qualifiers) in the regular season. Having a healthy Ashton Cook (2149 yards, 23 TD) at QB is a big reason for their resurgence. Cook has plenty of weapons at his disposal, but 2021 classmate Alec Wick (1120 rec yards, 14 TD) is the main target. The rushing game is led by Theo Kolie (688 yards) and Levi Quinlan (476 yards). But, perhaps the biggest weapon in the Regal arsenal is PK Michael Dunn. He has a Class 1A leading 8 FG made and has a plus 50% touchback rate on kickoffs.
KEEP AN EYE ON: Dunn - he can flip a field very quickly; meaning, Advantage Regina. Also, Wick is an elite All-State level talent....but he is also a strong defender on the outside.
WEST BRANCH pitched its second shutout of the season last week against North Linn, 23-0. On a rainy evening with an already wet field, the Bears defense limited the Lynx to a season-low 161 total yards of offense. The same Bear defense forced 6 turnovers. Gavin Hierseman, on offense, was extremely efficient under center. He completed 10 of his 13 passing attempts for 181 yards. His running mate, Tanner Lukavsky, scored twice and rushed for 100+ yards for the second consecutive week. Dalyn Pedersen and Morgan Hartz led the Bears in tackles from their defensive live position(s). That bodes well moving forward.
QUOTABLE: "We play a very good (Regina) team this week. They are well coached and will have to play our best game to win." - Head Coach Butch Pedersen.
